Based on research nationwide since 2016, a compilation of interesting statistics have been released. Banfield has estimated the average lifespan of cats is approximately 13.1 years. The most common diagnoses in over half a million cats were dental calculous, obesity, gingivitis and fleas.
Here at Metro Cat Clinic, we see a large population of elderly cats! One of the reasons we encourage exams on cats over 10, twice a year, is to aid in diagnoses of illness as quickly as possible such treatment options are available.
We take pride in our dental program in this feline friendly practice. Dr. Montgomery and Dr. Wilson examine the mouths on each cat during their wellness check-ups. There is an important focus to maintain the dental health of our patients. Not only do we have excellent care protocols, but we also focus on educating our clients about oral health preventative care. We highly recommend the use of Oratene in your cat’s water bowl. This is an odorless, enzyme to control plaque and bacteria.
Give us a call today and we can get you an appointment scheduled for a wellness exam and discuss options for keeping your feline family healthier longer!
